Every day, more than 86,000 tons of trash are generated in Mexico, primarily in homes, buildings, and streets. This equates to each person producing an average of 1.16 kg of waste per day. In this context, for Bepensa, as part of the Coca-Cola Mexican Industry, achieving a #WorldWithoutWaste where everything is recycled or reused is our goal.
Let's get to work
To reduce the amount of waste on the planet, your participation is essential. Therefore, here are 10 actions to recycle easily and reuse every day, everywhere. Don't throw away any material after its first use; instead, recycle it so you or someone else can use it again.
Remember and practice the three R's: reduce, recycle and reuse
Place trash cans with colored liners in your home or office to help you identify the type of trash that belongs in each container. As you do this every day, you'll learn to separate and make it a habit.
When recycling plastic bottles, remember these four steps: empty, crush, cap, and place in the appropriate container.
Reuse plastic or glass containers and bring them with you when you shop for bulk foods, such as beans, chilies, or cereals.
Bring cloth or traditional mesh bags to the supermarket instead of packing everything in plastic bags. In Mexico, local legislatures in 21 states are already making efforts to ban single-use plastics like bags and straws.
When you go to juice, smoothie, or coffee stands, bring your thermos or water bottle so they can serve your drink there. At the office, avoid using disposable plates and cups. Instead, reuse water and soda bottles (just wash them thoroughly).
Give cans a second life. Just like bottles, compress them and place them in a recycling bin.
When you're out and about, please don't throw your soda bottles or cans in the street. Instead, collect them.
With a little imagination, you can give cardboard and wooden boxes a second life. How about a crate ornament?
Finally, remember that some materials are difficult to recycle. Therefore, it's best to avoid using Styrofoam, plastic bags, straws, or cellophane.
Follow the 10 simple steps we recommend and encourage yourself to make recycling a habit. Don't forget to share this message so more and more of us can participate in this chain.
