Tulum, Quintana Roo, October 15, 2019.- As in many areas of our country, the city of Tulum has registered significant urban and demographic growth, which naturally increases the increase in waste, which can impact areas such as Punta Allen, which due to its geographical location makes its proper disposal difficult.
Conscientes de esta situación y con el firme compromiso de seguir siendo una diferencia positiva en las comunidades,Fundación Bepensa, en conjunto con Fundación Coca-Cola, colaboran con Amigos de Sian Ka’an con el proyecto “Punta Allen Limpio”, el cual tiene como objetivo crear una cultura ambiental responsable basada en educación, participación y comunicación comunitaria, además de la rehabilitación de un centro de acopio para el manejo adecuado de residuos.
The event took place in Tulum with the participation of Carlos Martín Briceño, Director of the Bepensa Foundation; Miguel Laporta, Director of the Coca-Cola Mexico Foundation; Liliana García Ramírez, Program Director of Friends of Sian Ka'an; Alfredo Arellano Guillermo, Secretary of the Environment for the state of Quintana Roo; Jesús Pereira Cruz, Delegate of the Punta Allen community; and Arnold Ricalde, of Organik.
Miguel Laporta, mencionó que el proyecto “Punta Allen Limpio”, en alianza con Amigos de Sian Ka’an, es de gran relevancia ya que alentará el desarrollo de las capacidades de la comunidad para fortalecer la toma de decisiones con respecto a los residuos y su disposición final, así como una mejor cultura a través de la educación y comunicación ambiental, para generar conciencia y promover los buenos hábitos dentro de esta localidad, en colaboración con sus habitantes para lograr un modelo de comunidad sostenible, que servirá de ejemplo para que cada vez, seamos más los que actuemos a favor de un mundo sin residuos.
For her part, Liliana García, representative of Friends of Sian Ka'an, shared that this project will inform the residents of Punta Allen about the importance of managing the waste generated in the community and that which arrives by sea, in addition to helping them understand how their habits can be a factor of change and benefit from recycling under a circular economy model.
“Fundación Bepensa refrenda su compromiso siendo enlace con las organizaciones aliadas en proyectos de gran impacto para el medio ambiente. Es por ello por lo que, el día de hoy, estamos aquí sumando para seguir generando acciones contundentes que mejoren la calidad de vida de las comunidades donde Bepensa, como parte de la Industria Mexicana de Coca-Cola, tiene presencia”, mencionó Carlos Martín Briceño, Director de Fundación Bepensa.
In closing, Alfredo Arellano, Secretary of the Environment, congratulated all the stakeholders involved in these actions and reiterated his support for continuing to contribute to and strengthen the state of Quintana Roo with actions that improve and transform the state's environmental reality.
Además, se mencionó que Fundación Coca-Cola apoyará también el proyecto de “Puntos Limpios” de la organización OrganiK y las redes de sociedad civil local para fortalecer la educación e infraestructura de acopio y reciclaje en Tulum. Se sumará para generar más puntos limpios, los cuales tienen como objetivo la separación, acopio y transferencia de los residuos como cartón, PET, vidrio, aluminio, entre otros, para su posterior tratamiento.
For Bepensa, the Bepensa Foundation, the Coca-Cola Foundation, and their partners, these actions allow them to promote and strengthen a circular economy network, helping to give all waste a longer useful life through active citizen participation so that, together, we can achieve #WorldWithoutWaste.
