AMDA recognizes Alberto Ponce García as “Distributor of the Year”

To highlight the business work and social commitment of heavy vehicle distributors, for the second consecutive year, the Truck Committee of the Mexican Association of Automobile Dealers (AMDA) recognizes the career of Alberto Ponce García, President of the Board of Directors of Bepensa.

His son, Ricardo Ponce Gutiérrez, was in charge of receiving the recognition from his family and friends, in addition to sharing some anecdotes during the online ceremony as part of the 2022 AMDA Commercial Vehicle Forum.

Ponce García was born on June 28, 1940, in Mérida, Yucatán. He began his career in truck distribution after graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Dayton in Ohio, USA, and joined Agencias Mercantiles (AMSA), the distributor of the International Harvester brand in the state of Yucatán. Founded in 1946, AMSA is the pioneering company that now forms the Bepensa Motriz group.

In the 1970s, AMSA became the distributor that marketed International products in the country under the brand's license. It was during this time that the company experienced its first phase of growth, opening branches in Campeche, Chetumal, and the nascent Cancún, as well as a few years later in Villahermosa with Camionera Tabasqueña.

At the beginning of the 1990s, with the privatization of state-owned companies, Engineer Ponce, along with a group of three businessmen, succeeded in giving the Navista brand a direct presence in our country once again. They established a factory in Escobedo, Nuevo León, at the time the largest in North America.

Since 1996, AMSA has been the distributor of Internacional products for the states of Yucatán, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, and Chiapas; in 2011, distribution expanded to the states of Puebla and Tlaxcala.

Years later, they added the International distribution centers in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Fort Pierce, and Fort Myers, achieving the internationalization of the motor group.

It's also worth remembering his participation as president and advisor to numerous organizations and business chambers, in addition to chairing the National Board of Trustees of the Special Olympics.

At Bepensa, we are proud to be a solid group, with an innovative approach while maintaining the human and ethical values that have helped us grow over 75 years.
