Bepensa Dominicana promotes reading through the "National Literary Bottles Contest"

Reading is an activity that fosters our cultural and intellectual heritage; it also raises awareness of the importance of caring for the planet through the creation of works of art using recyclable raw materials.

For this reason, the Vice Presidency of the Republic, through the Dominican Republic Children's and Youth Library (BIJRD), announced the fifth edition of the "2018 National Literary Bottles Contest," sponsored by Bepensa Dominicana and Coca-Cola.

Juan Amell, Director of Corporate Affairs at Bepensa Dominicana, highlighted the Coca-Cola System's commitment to promoting environmental and natural resource stewardship among the population, teaching them that packaging isn't waste, but a valuable resource that can be reused.

"At every opportunity we get, we reiterate that the life of packaging doesn't end when people consume the product it contains, but rather, from then on, the process of becoming something more than just a bottle begins, and that's what this contest demonstrates," the executive added, while urging participants to continue making recycling and reading a habit in their lives.

1. 23,000 students and 312 student classes have participated in this contest, which was launched four years ago. Through this contest, students have learned about the importance of recycling while also becoming involved in the literary world.

2. Project in conjunction with the Gonzalo Río Arronte Foundation: This involves installing appropriate technologies at rural housing levels for the collection, storage, and disinfection of water, as well as for the treatment and reuse of wastewater (gray and black) in backyard cultivation areas.

3. Cenote Sanitation Project: This project has enabled the comprehensive sanitation of more than 16 cenotes with actions such as surface and underwater cleaning of the water body, reforestation, awareness talks to residents, and placement of awareness signs.

4. Miguel Colorado Ejido Conservation Project: This project aims to contribute to the conservation, protection, and sustainable use of water resources in the Miguel Colorado Ejido in Campeche. This site covers an area of 36,568 hectares and houses 42 cenotes and two lagoons.

In this way, Bepensa not only contributes to the maintenance of one of the greatest assets of southeastern Mexico but also contributes to the creation and strengthening of a culture of conservation essential to the maintenance of this vital asset.
