Within the framework of the 27th International Congress of Environmental Sciences, which took place in Campeche from August 28 to 30, Bepensa, through PetStar, the largest food-grade PET recycling plant in the world, reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and the circular economy, by standing out as a leader in the collection and recycling of food-grade PET in the Yucatan Peninsula.
Ximena Martínez, PetStar's Communications Manager, participated in a keynote address where she highlighted Bepensa's vision and leadership in transforming the consumer model in Mexico. With over a decade of operations in the Yucatán Peninsula and more than 25 years in Mexico, PetStar, supported by Bepensa and as part of the Coca-Cola Mexican Industry, has established itself as a leader in PET collection and recycling, collecting 15 million PET containers daily nationwide.
Sustainability and the concept of a circular economy are fundamental pillars of PetStar's operations, an approach that Bepensa has consistently promoted. During his participation, Martínez emphasized the need to understand the challenges facing humanity and shift the paradigm toward a more responsible use of resources, reincorporating them into the production cycle instead of disposing of them.
Regarding PetStar's presence in the Yucatán Peninsula, Martínez highlighted that Bepensa, as its shareholder, has invested 90 million pesos in the region to double its collection and recycling capacity starting in 2022. This investment reflects its ongoing commitment to expanding its positive impact in the region and continuing to lead sustainability efforts nationwide.
