Bepensa and Fundación Azteca join forces to clean mangroves.

As part of World Recycling Day and in a collaborative effort with Fundación Azteca, Bepensa participated in the Let's Clean Up Mexico for a World Without Waste movement, through which cleanup and waste recovery activities were carried out in the Chelem mangroves in Progreso, Yucatán.

Let's Clean Up Mexico is one of the largest cleanup campaigns in our country. It was launched in 2009 with the intention of raising community awareness about the serious problem of solid waste disposal. Mexico requires a cultural shift that involves the participation of everyone: civil society, businesses, and government.

The solution to this problem is in our hands through participation and changing habits. Limpiemos México seeks to foster civic responsibility and calls for action through cleanup events that bring together millions of people across the country, in partnership with various companies and initiatives. On the Yucatán Peninsula, Bepensa and Fundación Azteca are joining forces to recover waste from the mangroves adjacent to the coasts of Chelem, Progreso, Yucatán.

The event began at 7 a.m. with a reception for volunteers, collaborators, and the general public, as well as the distribution of kits for recovery efforts.

In total it was possible to recover

– PET 116 kg

– HEADS 11 kg

– Aluminum 2 kg

– Tinplate 6 kg

– Glass 765 kg

– Cardboard 120 kg

– Flexible packaging 19 kg

– Non-recyclable and organic 35,000 kg

We are grateful for the participation of more than 450 volunteers who participated in this event.

All recovered PET will be sent to the PetStar collection plant in Umán, and from there to the world's largest food-grade PET recycling plant, of which we are shareholders as part of the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry.

With actions like these, we reinforce our commitment to the environment for a World Without Waste.
