The Reforestation and Water Harvesting Program (PNRCA) was launched by the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry eleven years ago to contribute to Mexico's sustainable development, demonstrating that when private sector, government, and civil society come together, great things can be achieved.
Our commitment to collaborating on Mexico's ecological restoration through various initiatives has helped us return all the water we use in our products to nature. Our main strategy is ecological restoration, reforestation, and forest maintenance to promote soil conservation and groundwater recharge.
To implement this, there are three main lines of action: reforestation, water harvesting and availability, and productive projects. Thus, over time, the results have surpassed the initial goals. Today, they also have a significant impact on the quality of life and economy of the participating communities.
Delivering on Earth, a commitment achieved.
For several years now, the PNRCA and several of its activities have been recognized by national and international bodies for their results. The three pillars on which it is based have positively changed the lives of many people and the planet itself.
These are the results:
Reforestation
2,948 thousand hectares reforested
More than 2 million 560 thousand trees planted
12,498 hectares under maintenance
1,349 hectares with conservation works
More than 2 million 400 thousand plants produced in community nurseries
1 independent community nursery
Water collection and availability
5 rainwater collection pots
101 community cisterns
185 rainwater-collecting roofs
199 backyard gardens
2 wastewater treatment plants
3 water purification plants
Productive projects
4 productive projects associated with rainwater collection pots
173 fruit orchards
251 wood-saving stoves
2 sustainable pinion projects
Ecological restoration is the core foundation of the actions represented by these projects, and their goal is extremely ambitious. The continued efforts of the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry and Bepensa, as well as the involvement of beneficiaries and the impact generated, are key elements to continue generating consistent results.
