Let's take care of our forests

When we drink a glass of water, write in a notebook, take fever medication, or build a house, we don't always associate these actions with forests. However, these and many other aspects of our lives are linked to them in one way or another.

Forests are essential to combating climate change, making a significant contribution to the benefit of present and future generations.

Forests also play a fundamental role in eradicating poverty and achieving internationally agreed development goals, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

But despite the incredible ecological, economic, and social benefits that forests provide, deforestation continues at an unprecedented rate.

To raise awareness of this issue, the 2022 theme for International Day is: “Forests: Sustainable Consumption and Production”The slogan is a call to choose sustainable wood for people and the planet.

At Bepensa, we are aligned with the United Nations 2030 Agenda, which is why we have developed numerous programs for the conservation and protection of ecosystems, as well as reforestation efforts in the communities where we operate.

Bepensa, as part of the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry, maintains a genuine interest in collaborating with the country through sustainability actions, environmental care, and conservation in the communities where it operates.

Since 2009, Bepensa has been recognized as a Socially Responsible Company for its active contribution to improving the social, economic, and environmental environment.

Trees not only help capture carbon dioxide (CO2) and suspended particles from the air that cause environmental pollution; they also help absorb water, provide shade, and prevent noise from spreading. For all these reasons, reforesting cities is a significant benefit for everyone.

With the goal of replenishing the aquifers, we carry out reforestation activities with volunteers, donating endemic tree species grown in the Bepensa Biopark in this city.

Biopark is a 10,000-square-meter demonstration green area where environmental activities are carried out, including recycling materials, using alternative energy sources, and reusing water from wastewater treatment processes.

It has a nursery that produces more than 7,000 trees a year, which are donated to schools, and a compost heap that uses organic waste to produce environmentally friendly fertilizers that accelerate tree growth. To date, more than 300 trees of various native or endemic species have been planted in the area.
