Expedición Grosjean, un aliado de Bepensa en el saneamiento de cenotes

As part of Bepensa and the Bepensa Foundation's commitment to the environment as one of its four pillars of sustainability, there are sanitation, cleanup, and waste recovery efforts in bodies of water on the Yucatán Peninsula, primarily in the case of cenotes.

The Grosjean Expedition initiative and its president, archaeologist Sergio Gorsjean Abimerhi, began their work in 1999 as an altruistic initiative, understanding that each cenote is a unique ecosystem and that losing it is not just a loss for Yucatán, but for the entire planet.

Divers from the Grosjean Expedition civil association have managed to rescue more than 81 cenotes that were used as garbage dumps, and thanks to this rescue, some of them are now part of the organization's ecotourism activities.

Their association with the Bepensa Foundation began in 2015, and to date, they have successfully cleaned more than 20 cenotes together, recovering thousands of kilograms of waste for proper disposal and recycling, preventing the contamination of hundreds of thousands of cubic meters of Mexico's most important underground water reserve.

Likewise, they have jointly contributed to raising environmental awareness in the communities where these cenotes are located and where Bepensa operates. Grosjean comments: “The project is no longer simply about cleaning up the cenotes, but about getting the community to commit to the comprehensive and permanent restoration of these sites. The goal is for these projects to be sustainable, benefiting the communities themselves.”

These are the types of partnerships that add value to Bepensa's agenda as part of the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry's work toward a world without waste.
