The members of the Board of Directors, executives, employees, and all of us at Bepensa report with profound sadness the irreparable loss of Mr. Alberto Ponce García, a shareholder, along with his brothers Fernando and José Luis, of this Mexican consortium and one of the fundamental drivers of its growth and development.
Don Alberto was distinguished by his intense business work, social commitment and people skills.
A recent graduate of the University of Dayton in Ohio, USA, he took over the management of Agencias Mercantiles SA, a distributor of International trucks and one of the group's first companies.
Under his leadership, AMSA strengthened, diversified, and expanded into other states, and with his vision, he laid the foundation for international expansion. In March of this year, the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA) recognized Alberto's career and work within the heavy vehicle sector, where he was a national leader.
Don Alberto also stood out as president and advisor at the state and national levels of numerous business organizations and chambers of commerce. His deep commitment to the underprivileged led him to become involved in numerous social projects, planting the seed of our Bepensa Foundation. He also went on to head the National Board of Trustees of the Special Olympics in Mexico.
After a prolonged illness and at the age of 82, he passed away early this morning at his residence in Mérida, Yucatán. He is survived by his sons, Alberto, Ricardo, and his wife, Marlene Cetina Escamilla; daughters-in-law, Samanta Hungler Rescanieres and María Eugenia Acevedo Macari; brothers, Fernando and José Luis; sisters-in-law, grandchildren, and nephews.
At Bepensa, we continue to carry Don Alberto's legacy, expressed in a vision of work, camaraderie, and values that have underpinned the growth and expansion of our company for more than 75 years.
