The Bepensa Foundation, volunteers from the Actinver Financial Group, the Grosjean expedition diving team, and communal landowners from the municipality of Tecoh, led by Commissioner Mauro Manzanero Chan, cleaned the Tza Itzá cenote located in that municipality on Thursday, August 30, 2018.
This is the first of a total of four cenote sanitation activities that Actinver has decided to sponsor, joining forces with the Bepensa Foundation and the Grosjean Expedition for 2018.
At 7:00 a.m., divers began preparing for the cleanup inside the cenote. Activer volunteers, meanwhile, began removing solid waste from around and outside the cenote.
200 kilos of waste were collected, including waste removed from the bottom of the cenote. Most of this trash came from people visiting the cenote who didn't take precautions to dispose of it properly.
Mr. Fernando Ponce Díaz, president of the Bepensa Foundation, was present, motivating the participants to do a good job, and especially the ejidatarios and community members, urging them to reflect and become aware of the importance of keeping the cenote and its surroundings clean, since by doing so they are contributing to the conservation and care of water, actions that positively impact their well-being and that of everyone, in addition to actively participating in the conservation of the most important underground water reserve in Mexico.
Another activity in which Actinver volunteers contributed to the environment was the planting of 50 trees around the cenote. Among the species planted were "flor de mayo," "maculís," and "balché" trees.
At the end of the work, a gathering was held with food prepared by the commissioner and the ejidatarios, strengthening ties with the community.
With actions like this, the Bepensa Foundation, Actinver Financial Group, and Expedición Grosjean are fulfilling their commitment to environmental protection by rehabilitating and cleaning the first of the four cenotes planned for the second half of 2018, positively impacting the well-being of communities.
