As part of our actions aligned with our commitment to contribute to building more sustainable communities in the places where we operate, we participated in the inauguration of the Sustainability Advisory Council, established by the Mérida City Council.
Collaborative work allows for the continued implementation of actions that help mitigate climate change, protect and preserve natural resources, so that future generations can enjoy an environment conducive to their development, health, and well-being.
"I believe we have managed, at least in recent years, to stabilize, make visible, and consolidate government policies and programs that help mitigate all the damage that can be done to nature.", stressed the mayor of Mérida, Renán Barrera Concha.
We recognize the work and coordination maintained with the City Council and citizens to monitor and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, which allow us to combat climate change and strengthen the care and preservation of natural resources.
We agree with the councilors on the importance of citizens gradually demonstrating a responsible environmental culture regarding the use of clean energy and the recycling of urban solid waste, an effort that will allow us to better address climate change and strengthen the green infrastructure system through planning, design, and implementation of urban strategies.
The event, which took place at the Marist University of Mérida, was attended by Sayda Rodríguez Gómez, Secretary of Sustainable Development of the Government of the State of Yucatán (SDS); María Andrade Hernández, Director of Pronatura Peninsula of Yucatán; Carlos Martín Briceño, Director of the Bepensa Foundation; Gabriela Baqueiro Valencia, Councilwoman and President of the Sustainability Commission; and María Fernanda Vivas Sierra, Councilwoman and Member of the Sustainability Commission.
