Guide to Breast Cancer

We've heard a lot about breast cancer. We know it's a risky disease that affects thousands of people, but do we really understand it well? Below, we share a brief guide that will help you better understand this disease.

What should I know?

Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women and usually appears between the ages of 30 and 50. However, we must always keep in mind that it can affect both men and women and can occur at any age. The likelihood of contracting this disease increases if a family member has had it because this type of cancer is the result of a hereditary mutation.

How can I combat it?

While breast cancer cannot be prevented, early detection allows patients to receive timely, potentially curable treatment and improves their quality of life. The best way to detect it is to perform a self-examination once a month, five days after the start of your period. And if you detect any irregularities, consult a specialist immediately.

Perform your self-examination

1. Hold your arms close to your body to look for lumps or abnormalities.

2. Raise your arms and notice the symmetry of your breasts

3. Divide the breasts into four quadrants, exploring from the nipple to the top.

4. Feel with your fingers in a circular motion around your breasts and press your nipple to check for discharge.
