The Mexican Coca-Cola Industry redoubles its commitment to protecting water with new goals.

The Mexican Coca-Cola Industry (IMCC) and its eight bottlers, including Bepensa, have made clear their commitment to responsibly using water for the benefit of the communities in which they operate, and have set new goals to reduce their consumption, return every liter used in their production processes to nature, and promote access to clean water for the Mexicans who need it most.

In line with its goal of sustainable development for Mexico, the IMCC works daily to improve the quality and quantity of water in the country. By 2025, it aims to reduce water consumption per liter of beverage produced to 1.41 l of water per liter of product, positioning itself as one of the most efficient industries in the food and beverage sector.

For more than fifteen years, our commitment to water conservation has been clear: from 2004 to 2019, water efficiency in our production plants increased by 30%, and we're looking to go further, with a firm commitment to increasing it by 15% within three years. Furthermore, we're actively working to recover 100% of the water we use for our production.

“At Coca-Cola Mexico, we are convinced that every positive action taken for Mexico is transformative and multiplies. For more than 95 years, we have worked on responsible resource management, restoring ecosystems and modernizing infrastructure, ensuring that each initiative is a collective action. For the love of Mexico, we take care of water!”, says Sergio Londoño, vice president of public affairs, sustainability and communications for Coca-Cola Mexico.

The love that the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry and Bepensa have for Mexico and its communities has translated into projects and initiatives that have allowed more than 500,000 people to have access to clean water through water collection basins, wetlands, community cisterns, school water taps, and home and roof filtration systems, to name a few. By 2030, the company aims to promote access to clean water for 1 million people in Mexico.

In the Yucatan Peninsula, Bepensa as part of the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry, promotes through Bepensa Foundation Since 2015, a program has been underway to clean up cenotes, which are part of the most important water reserve in southeastern Mexico. Due to their geological characteristics, these important aquifers are highly susceptible to contamination.

The cenote sanitation program is vitally important to contribute to the conservation of these water sources in Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo. Through three stages: community awareness through talks and workshops; cleaning of aquifers and surrounding areas; and reforestation of the area, these bodies of water are improved and conserved, directly benefiting the communities where they are located and indirectly benefiting thousands of people in southeastern Mexico.

The love we have for Mexico and its people is crystal clear, which is why we work daily to improve the quality and quantity of water in the country. Let's continue together to build a future where #LoveMultiplies ❤
