What is Phase 2 of COVID-19 and what should I do?

Mexico has currently entered Phase 2 of the COVID-19 contingency. It's important to be well informed about what this means and what measures to follow.

Phase 2 refers to community spread. This stage is characterized by transmission beyond the first generation. The number of cases is in the hundreds, and community outbreaks begin, for example, in schools, neighborhoods, or workplaces.

The loss of traceability of infections is the key element that begins to distinguish Phase 1 from Phase 2. This is the moment, and therefore, we want to formally declare the beginning of Phase 2.

What is Phase 2 in Mexico?

The WHO estimates that Phase 2 occurs when infections are detected among people who have not traveled abroad.

At this stage it is recommended:

Do not greet with a kiss or hug.

Cancel classes.

Suspend mass events.

Close restaurants or bars.

Among other preventive measures.
