The fourth Mega Green Point opens, now in Jardín Bepensa

With a view to building an increasingly environmentally conscious society, the fourth Mega Green Point was installed today in the Bepensa Garden, located in the west of the city, in coordination with the Mérida City Council, through the Sustainable Development Unit.

Environmental education is currently being strengthened, as it is essential for building a nature-friendly society.

The conservation and protection of our natural resources are a priority, which is why this fourth Mega Green Point and other programs are being launched to combat the threats posed by climate change.

Citizen participation is increasingly necessary, and that's why we're taking more actions so we can achieve more and better results.

This must be a joint effort that unites the private sector, government institutions, and society, since this program will be successful to the extent that there is synergy. We need awareness and participation, as well as the use of the tools that the Mérida City Council provides to contribute to environmental preservation through these containers.

For her part, the director of the Sustainable Development Unit, Eugenia Correa Arce, indicated that this fourth Mega Green Point is added to the 200 containers that will be installed at different strategic points throughout the city with the goal of facilitating recycling and promoting the importance of environmental protection. Since the implementation of the Mobile Green Point program, various materials such as PET, HDPE, paper, cardboard, glass, aluminum, nylon, Tetra Pack, scrap metal, metal containers, and polypropylene have been collected. "The quantities collected by the population of the city of Mérida vary among different materials, from approximately 249 kg of PET in 2017, growing to 1,233 kg in 2019," she said.

In his speech, Carlos Martín Briceño, director of the Bepensa Foundation, congratulated the Mérida City Council for educating and raising awareness about environmental issues. "What the City Council is doing represents a step forward compared to other cities. We should be very proud that we have a mayor who is committed to promoting a recycling culture," he said.

The Bepensa Foundation and Bepensa, as part of the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry, reaffirm their commitment to the environment and support the opening of ecological spaces as well as actions to promote recycling awareness.
