“Allies” for sustainability and empowerment

To advance its partnership with diverse communities, organizations, governments, and businesses in the country, the Coca-Cola System, comprised of The Coca-Cola Company and its bottling partner, Bepensa Dominicana, launched Aliados, a collective action platform that encompasses its sustainability projects in Latin America.

In the case of the Dominican Republic, the platform, which manages communication and collaboration to enhance the impact of its projects, includes initiatives for solid waste management, water supply, and the economic empowerment of productive sectors.

“We have a strong commitment to sustainability in the Dominican Republic. And with Allies, we aspire to promote broader actions that involve all sectors. As a company, we have embraced the sustainability challenges of the 2030 Agenda, and within that framework, partnerships are key to mobilizing will and energy in the same direction.”, said Marlen Gómez, senior manager of Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability for Coca-Cola Caribe.

Gómez highlighted the collaboration received from organizations, universities, business groups, civil society, and government, as they represent fundamental support for achieving the goals and objectives.

"These partners act as contact points, bringing together the real and potential needs of communities, contributing knowledge, human resources, and essential materials to ensure the impact and sustainability of the implemented projects. Likewise, stakeholders from business associations, public institutions, and academia strengthen the various movements promoted by the Coca-Cola System." said Fernando Del Río, general director of Bepensa Dominicana.

One of the main initiatives of the Coca-Cola System is A World Without Waste, which is implemented through various Allies and participating in projects linked to the efficient management of packaging, such as New Life for Solid Waste (FRIEND), the largest private alliance that seeks to create a culture of waste reduction, reuse, recycling and utilization in the country.

Also part of this framework is "Recolectiva," a large private-sector alliance that seeks to guarantee the collection and recovery of recyclable plastic bottles. It also seeks to generate a circular economy for PET.

Likewise, there is the "Circular Seas" sustainability project, which stands out for its comprehensive nature and for promoting a circular strategy. This is achieved by helping to reduce waste in natural environments, fostering a recycling culture, and consolidating a database that serves as a guide for the future.

Through this project, in partnership with educational institutions and the State, regular coastal cleanup events are held, as well as recycling promotion through webinars and the launch of an online educational platform on recycling and pollution prevention.

Another initiative implemented by the company is “Let's Start Together with Coca-Cola”, promoted in alliance with the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM) and prestigious universities and training institutions, which supports and promotes entrepreneurship by training merchants who own grocery stores and small cafes, ensuring that this important sector achieves development based on capacity building, business development, job creation, and improved quality of life.

The Allies platform, which is present throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, represents the Coca-Cola System's approach to promoting its sustainability initiatives and projects, highlighting collaboration and collective action to achieve the region's sustainability goals and contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
