Bepensa, in partnership with the Benito Juárez City Council, inaugurates a new waste collection center.

Bepensa reaffirms its commitment to the circular economy and collaboration with government and society.

• In 2024, more than 785 tons of recyclable waste were collected in the municipality through the “Reciclatón” program.

Benito Juárez, Q. Roo, March 31, 2025.– As part of its commitment to sustainability and the promotion of collaborative actions, Bepensa and the General Directorate of Ecology of the Benito Juárez City Council inaugurated this Monday a new waste collection center in Cancún, the second fixed point of the Reciclatón Cancún program.

Bepensa's donation of a shipping container to this center reaffirms its commitment to Quintana Roo and the environment. The collection point will not only facilitate proper waste disposal but also seeks to raise awareness about the importance of separating and recycling.

The Reciclatón program allowed for the collection of more than 785.8 tons of recyclable waste during 2024, with the active participation of more than 112,000 people.

"The donation of this container for the opening of this new permanent collection point for recyclable waste demonstrates our conviction that by being Allies for Recycling, we can make a difference. Separating and recycling is building a better world for future generations," said Agustín Menéndez Reyes, Corporate Affairs Manager at Bepensa, during the opening ceremony.

Menéndez Reyes explained that PET collection is part of a sustainable business model that generates environmental, social, and economic value. "When containers are managed properly, they become valuable raw materials that can be reincorporated into new production cycles," he added.

Bepensa actively participates in the circular economy through Bepensa Foundation programs such as ReQPET and the Allies for Recycling initiative, which strengthen the PET value chain. It is also a major shareholder in PetStar, the world's largest food-grade PET recycling plant, which in 2025 celebrates 30 years of transforming used PET bottles into new bottles in a virtuous circular economy model.

PetStar is a global leader in recycling and was recently selected by UNESCO as an official partner for World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development 2025.

Representing the local government were Mayor Ana Patricia Peralta, Agustín Menéndez, Corporate Affairs Manager for Bepensa, Fernando Haro Salinas, head of the Ecology Department of the Municipality of Benito Juárez, Pablo Chico of R-Mar, and the local community.

Bepensa is calling on everyone to join this environmental crusade. Recycling not only protects the planet, it also strengthens our communities, promotes the circular economy, and leaves a positive legacy.
