Through its Sprite brand, Bepensa Bebidas brought together hundreds of young Yucatecans to recover the safe harbor in the municipality of Celestún.
This event is part of the beach and water cleanup efforts being organized by the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry (IMCC) across the country to restore them.
What happened in Celestún is being carried out on several beaches and bodies of water nationwide, as part of the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry's efforts to effectively contribute to environmental cleanup. Additionally, accompanying this major project, the Mexican Consumer Protection Agency (IMCC) has launched the new blue Sprite bottle, which is made from 100% recycled PET resin and is also fully recyclable through the circular economy model, implemented at the world's largest food-grade PET recycling plant: PETSTAR.
This activity was supported by the Bepensa Foundation in collaboration with Bepensa's corporate volunteer program, which also joined the youth in the cleanup efforts. They managed to recover 2.4 tons of waste, which will be processed by the environmental association ECOCE to give the material a second life for recycling. Non-recyclable waste will be delivered to government institutions for proper treatment.
The Mayor of Celestún, Yulma García, was present at the cleanup event, joining the youth in cleaning up the affected areas with her team from the city council. Also accompanying the recovery efforts was Diana Pérez Jauma, Undersecretary of Planning for Sustainability of the State of Yucatán, who witnessed the tremendous efforts of the volunteers.
"Verano Sprite" is part of the initiatives that Bepensa Bebidas has implemented, as part of the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry, to achieve the global goal of "World Without Waste," with which it seeks to collect and recycle the equivalent of 100% of its sold containers by 2030. Currently, the IMCC is the main PET recycler in Mexico, with the capacity to process 85,000 tons through its two recycling plants, PETSTAR and IMER.
Bepensa, as a Socially Responsible Company, reaffirms its commitment to decisive actions that seek to improve the environment of the communities where it operates and foster a responsible environmental culture. These actions are an example of how when society, businesses, and government work together, we can achieve significant changes in our world.
