Canje ReQpet 2019, Mérida Yuc.

Bepensa, as part of its commitment to providing an effective solution for improving our environment, is redeeming points through the Bepensa Foundation for its ongoing PET collection program.

The program ReQPET is a program of the Bepensa Foundation which has been active since 2010, which promotes an ecological culture regarding the management of plastic waste, promoting responsibility for environmental care and encouraging the habit of recycling. Its fundamental axis is education on the importance of recovering and recycling plastic waste., as an effective solution for the improvement of our environment and with a circular economy approach, which strengthens sustainable management with a vision of a world without waste.

Initially, this program was only implemented in schools, but it has now grown and has been joined by companies, businesses, and civil society organizations. ReQPET has more than 445 collection points throughout the peninsula, which is compelling evidence of our shared commitment to contributing to the improvement of the quality of life and environmental conservation in Mexico. Everything the Bepensa Foundation does in this program is completely free, and participants remain voluntarily.

Among the benefits of participating in this program are prizes redeemable for points earned for recovered PET, which accumulate throughout the school year. The catalog features more than 100 items ranging from sports equipment, stationery, electronics, and educational materials, among others, with the goal of improving the infrastructure of participating schools, businesses, and associations.

In addition to the collection infrastructure and logistics, the Bepensa Foundation also offers free environmental education talks to those who enroll in the program. All of this is part of Bepensa's genuine commitment to collaborating with sustainability initiatives, caring for and conserving the environment in the communities where it operates.

Thanks to everyone who participated this year, more than 59,000 kilos of PET were prevented from reaching the environment, which will be recycled within a circular economy model, That is, once we recover a container, regardless of the brand, we recycle it and convert it into another container that can be recycled again, thus continuing in a continuous cycle forever. This means we no longer use new plastic as resin for new bottles, thus avoiding the considerable reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to those that use virgin (new) resin.

This school year, the 5 schools that collected the most PETs are:

  1. Victor Manuel Martinez Public School in the Villas de Oriente Subdivision with 7,806 kilos.
  2. Santa Teresa de Jesús private school with 2172 kilos.
  3. Luis Donaldo Colosio Public School in the Los Reyes neighborhood with 1,756 kilos.
  4. Alianz Private School with 1538 kilos.
  5. Joaquín Peón Aznar private school with 1471 kilos.

With actions like these, Bepensa, through its foundation, reaffirms its commitment to a vision of a world without waste, with actions that address the needs for proper use, disposal, and recycling of plastic waste in the country. We work comprehensively with society, with a vision for the future, educating new generations with a comprehensive vision of the circular economy in which we leverage this material at all stages of its use cycle and thus reduce the impact on our environment.
