More than 1,200 people gathered to participate in the 12-kilometer sporting event, whose main objective was to raise funds.
SHOWING great sportsmanship and good spirits, more than 1,200 people gathered to participate in the 5th edition of the Teletón-Bepensa Foundation Race.
In addition to the 12-kilometer race, which featured high-performance athletes, a 5-kilometer family recreational walk was organized. Numerous CRIT patients, including Beny, "Gato," "Silver," and "Colitas," demonstrated that it is possible to overcome any type of limitation. After much effort and dedication during their rehabilitation, they completed the walk accompanied by their families.
A total of 20 wheelchair competitors competed. Starting at 6:30 a.m., entire families began arriving, some even accompanied by their pets, to kick off the Sunday session with a super-strength physical activity class led by Alex Rivas. Moments later, at 7:00 a.m., Paralympic athlete Rene Ledesma Abdala signaled the start of the 12-kilometer race, marking the start of hundreds of athletes who practically covered the access avenue to the CRIT facilities in purple.
Five minutes later, the participants in the five-kilometer recreational race were ready to start. Among them were mothers with strollers carrying their little ones, as well as children on bicycles or ride-ons who enthusiastically started the race.
Dozens of youngsters participated in the wheeled category before starting out, completing the 5-kilometer race in less than half an hour. Two young women from Campeche, Arlette Aguilar Hernández and Madai Rodríguez Aguilar, who were also cousins, took first and third place. "We are delighted with the response from the athletes and the general public who responded to our call to support these children. Thank you very much," said an emotional Dolores Sánchez Escalante, general director of CRIT Yucatán.
The overall winners in the men's category were Dino Castro and Claudia Lucía Baas Moreno in the women's category, who completed the 12-kilometer route in 00:43:45 and 00:53:20, respectively.
