The Bepensa Foundation, private initiatives, and citizens join forces to support cenotes and water conservation.

Working together for the environment, they will clean four cenotes, including the Tzá Itzá in Tecoh.

Mérida, Yucatán, August 24, 2018. The Bepensa Foundation and Grupo Financiero Actinver have joined forces and announced the cleanup of four Mayan cenotes, including the Tzá Itzá cenote, located in the municipality of Tecoh, a town 34.5 km from Mérida, the capital of Yucatán.

The Bepensa Foundation's cenote sanitation and rehabilitation program began in 2015 and will begin this year on August 30th and will extend through December 8th, covering four selected cenotes in Yucatán.

To date, the Bepensa Foundation, in collaboration with archaeologist Sergio Grosjean and his "Grosjean Expedition," has intervened in 16 cenotes, preventing the contamination of hundreds of thousands of square meters of water belonging to Mexico's most important underground water reserve.

In the second half of the year, the program kicks off with the cleanup of the Tzá Itzá cenote, located in the municipality of Tecoh. Grupo Financiero Actinver is also participating in this effort, donating $80,000 pesos for this purpose through its ACTINVER APOYA program.

Present at the announcement were Fernando Ponce Díaz, President of the Bepensa Foundation; Sergio Grosjean Abihmeri, Director of the Grosjean Expedition; Luis Armando Álvarez, General Director of Banco Actinver; and Pablo Herrera Lasso Jiménez, Director of the Mérida Plaza Luxus Altabrisa Financial Center.

Along with this activity, 50 plants and trees from the region will be planted, which will contribute to the recovery of water for the aquifer on the Yucatán Peninsula.

The Bepensa Foundation reaffirms its commitment to environmental protection through decisive actions to protect water and positively impact the communities where it operates.
