Mangrove cleanup day in Progreso, Yucatán

Last Saturday, October 1st, a mangrove cleanup and sanitation campaign was held in the Puerto Progreso area as part of our action plans focused on environmental conservation.

Bepensa Foundation as part of the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry joined forces with the Progreso City Council y la Secretariat of Sustainable Development.

The activity began at 8:00 AM with volunteer registration and the distribution of cleaning kits and materials. Work then began to recover all types of waste that were obstructing or harming the mangroves, endemic species, and the entire ecosystem derived from them.

We had the valuable assistance and participation of important authorities such as: MIA Sayda Rodríguez Gómez, Director of the Secretariat of Sustainable Development of the State of Yucatán; Ms. Margarita Ponce Díaz, President of the Bepensa Foundation; Mr. Erik Rihani González, Local Deputy of Congress; Mr. Herbert Pech, Councilor of Ecology and Environment, Prolimpia, Sanitary Landfill and Ecological Police of Progreso; Ms. Claudette Gamboa Rassam, Councilor of Tourism, DIF, Women's Institute and Member of the Commission for Attention to Diversity, Sustainable Development and International Affairs; Mr. Manuel Rosado Heredia, Director of Sustainable Development

In total, more than 80 volunteers participated, many of them members of the Bepensa Foundation and collaborators from various companies in the Bepensa group, as well as from the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry and allied companies such as: Oson Tours and Kayak and Paddle Board Rentals, Seijo Sa De Cv Construction and Mining Supplies, Poseidón Diving Center, and a group of young people and members of the surrounding community and society.

With everyone's support, more than 2.5 tons of waste were recovered. At the Bepensa Foundation, we are proud to continue working for the environment in the communities where we operate.
