The Bepensa Foundation, along with Expedición Grosjean and municipal authorities, as well as other organizations, will clean the Uayma cenote, a body of water that has never been explored, so the degree of contamination and depth are unknown.
According to estimates by Expedición Grosjean, there are approximately 2,800 of these bodies of water in Yucatán, and at least 40 have already been identified that require urgent intervention, according to its general director, Sergio Grosjean Abimeri. He stated that at first glance, tons of garbage can be seen in these cenotes, but inside the waterhole, more garbage is found, such as cans, plastics, refrigerators, furniture, fans, and more. He indicated that there is little awareness in the communities about the care of these natural resources due to the use of potable water.
Next Saturday, the Grosjean Expedition, in coordination with the Bepensa Foundation, will carry out comprehensive rescue work at the Uayma cenote.
