Recycle 100%!

As part of World Recycling Day, we reaffirm our commitment to the environment by highlighting all the infrastructure we have implemented to achieve our goal of a #WorldWithoutWaste.

The bottles made with PET type plastic that we manufacture integrate from 30% to 100% recycled resin. Petstar, which never become waste but are part of a circular economy.

How do we integrate PET into a sustainable Circular Economy?

Through Bepensa FoundationWe implement various PET waste collection and recovery programs.

ReQPET is a program created by the Bepensa Foundation that aims to promote environmental responsibility through actions that encourage recycling habits and the importance of proper waste management, specifically PET plastic containers.

To achieve this goal we have launched the initiative With V for Back, through which we invite you to return PET plastic containers, depositing them at the various collection centers we have set up throughout the city, with the valuable collaboration of our strategic partners.

Coastal Collection and Beach Cleanup Program

Since 2010, the Bepensa Foundation has supported community groups of women in the ports of Dzilam Bravo and Sisal, who collect and stockpile recyclable materials to earn additional income to support their families. This program aims to collect plastic waste from the coasts of Dzilam and Sisal, which would otherwise invade the coastline and mangroves.

The PET Bottle is #NotDisposable

To think about recycling it is necessary to think beyond the box, since behind every correctly disposed PET waste, there is PetStar, the largest food grade PET recycling plant in the world located in our country and part of the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry.

Through PetStar, she has managed to process 65,000 tons of PET bottles for reuse, which has helped reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 87% compared to the process used to create this material from scratch.

PetStar Reborn is the most competitive resin on the market, as it is the first to be Cradle to Cradle certified. This certification recognizes its health and environmental safety, material reuse, renewable energy use, efficient water use, and social justice.

The entire infrastructure that integrates this industry into a sustainable circular economy has a positive impact on the environment, adding environmental, social, and economic value.

Environmental Value

– PetStar collects 82,710 tons of PET per year and recycles 4,135,500 million bottles annually.

– Currently, PetStar recovers 6 out of 10 bottles that its shareholders place on the market.

– In 2020, PetStar achieved carbon neutrality and reduced waste generation by 64%.

– 66% of the energy used in PetStar’s recycling process comes from renewable sources.

– PetStar’s recycling process uses 90% less water than virgin resin.

Social Value

It has a PetStar Inclusive Collection Model (MAIP) that directly benefits more than 1,450 MSMEs dedicated to the recovery of recyclable materials throughout the country, which we call collection partners.

PetStar generates 24,000 indirect jobs that benefit urban waste collectors and recyclers.

It supports more than 900 children of women and men dedicated to the pepena (grass harvesting) industry, from a children's rights perspective through CEDIC, the MAYAMA Center, and the San Luis Potosí Children's Club, improving their development and quality of life.

This support for the children of waste recyclers translates to eliminating child labor in the PET container recovery process in the areas of Chimalhuacán, State of Mexico, Tonalá in Jalisco, and La Virgen and Real de Peñasco in San Luis Potosí.

PetStar works from a rights-based perspective for the thousands of women and men who collect waste, offering them an inclusive recycling model that promotes social mobility.

None of this would be possible without people like you, who have chosen a sustainable lifestyle and are aware of the importance of separating PET waste and disposing of it properly, since even the cap and label can be reused.
