
The Ministry of Health, the state DIF, the Bepensa Foundation, and the Marist University of Mérida are joining forces to reaffirm their commitment to the health of Yucatecan families.
Mérida, Yucatán, November 12, 2019. The Bepensa Foundation and the Marist University of Mérida are contributing the methodology of the "Peer-to-Peer Diabetes Education" program to the Ministry of Health and the state DIF (District of Inquiry) for adoption in the state of Yucatán.
A fundamental tool for the detection and management of type 2 diabetes mellitus is ongoing education. This project seeks to implement this education model, the first in Mexico, which has demonstrated the effectiveness of peer leadership interventions in reducing body weight, glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin levels, improving eating patterns, and improving the overall quality of life of people with this condition.

María Cristina Carrillo Espinosa, General Director of the Yucatán DIF System; MNC Leticia Mena Macossay, Director of Community Development and Food, Yucatán DIF System; Lic. Fernando Ponce Díaz, President of the Bepensa Foundation; Mtro. Miguel Pérez Baquedano, Rector of the Marist University of Mérida; Dr. Luis Alberto Méndez Trujeque, Director of the School of Health Sciences; Dr. Hugo Laviada Molina, Research Professor at the Marist University and Project Leader.
